The National Quality Register of Gynecological Surgery (a.k.a Gynop-registret) is a national healthcare registry founded in 1994. It encompasses 6 independent registries covering the broad field of gynecological surgery.
The 6 parts are:
“Adnex” = surgery of fallopian tubes and/or ovaries
“EA” = hysteroscopy or endometrial ablation
“Hyst” = hysterectomy/surgery of the womb
“Inkontinens” = incontinence surgery
“Prolaps” = prolapse surgery
“Tumör” = surgery of gynecological malignant tumours
The aim is to provide the departments with cost-effective tools for continuous monitoring of quality efforts over time and in comparison with other departments.
Since 1997 information has been recorded about the gynecological surgery; a health questionnaire answered by the patient and the medical consultation before surgery, about the surgery itself, the care immediately after the surgery and finally a number of questionnaires after the surgery.
The funding mainly consists of funds for national healthcare registries from The Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions. The participating clinics provide with a clinic fee, calculated from the number of enrolled patients per year.
Yearly assessments are made of collected data. Also 2-3 analyzing reports are compiled about specific subjects, for instance complications during or after surgery or usage of implants in prolapse surgery. Data is presented both on national and clinical level.
